A solid but uneven dinner: the beets, the pigs in a blanket, and the burger delivered, while the lobster tacos and sticky toffee pudding did not.
Overview / First Impressions
Tower Bar is the restaurant at the Sunset Tower Hotel on the Sunset Strip, and its hotel website invites guests to dine there or on the terrace. We went for dinner and covered a lot of the menu: two cocktails, two salads, pigs in a blanket, a burger, lobster tacos, and dessert.
The result was a solid but uneven meal, with a few highlights and a couple of dishes that fell short of what we have had elsewhere. But, the beauty of the restaurant, the service, and the view are all amazing and probably worth a return visit.
What We Ordered
Drinks
We started in the lounge for cocktails. It’s a beautiful space that you can see yourself relaxing in regularly. We had a Vesper martini and an elderflower gin martini (neither featured on their menu). As we moved to dinner, we also had a spicy margarita they featured, which had Ghost Tequila (jalapeno infused). We certainly can’t complain about the beverages.
Caesar Salad
While they said this was their most.popular salad, it was really just an average steakhouse salad. Not offensive in any way, just nothing to write home about.
Beet Salad
The better of the two salads. The beets were great. Perfectly ripe beats, combined with a mild goat cheese and lettuce. Refreshing.
Pigs in a Blanket
Definitely solid. Who doesn’t like a hot dog? Even better when you can sneak it in as a pre-entree snack.
Tower Burger
Very good. The bun was buttery, the meat-to-cheese ratio was right, and the char was good without tipping into overcooked. It was also well sauced. It was one of the highlights of the night and agreat example of what a restaurant burger should be. It may not reach the level of Hermon’s or Oy Bar, but very good nonetheless.
Lobster Tacos
Not bad, but not great. They were too saucy, and the tortilla was lacking. The lobster itself was fine. But, the lack of a cohesive package makes it hard to recommend.
Sticky Toffee Pudding
Not great. It does not compare to others we have had, like the one at Dunsmoor’s. At the end of the day, it was a sweet Treet, with the pudding and ice cream scratching an itch. But, if you’re looking for something that will wow you, this isn’t it.

The Quirks
The tacos and the pudding are where the meal slipped: too much sauce and a weak tortilla on one, a dessert that loses to Dunsmoor’s on the other.
The Verdict
Order the beet salad, the pigs in a blanket, and the Tower burger, and go easy on the rest. It was a solid dinner, just not a consistent one.
