The double steak Cali is the best breakfast burrito we have ever eaten, and the chorizo Sig is no slouch either.
Overview / First Impressions
Sobuneh means “breakfast” in Farsi, according to its website, which also says the place started as a backyard burrito pop-up between three friends and grew into an all-day cafe. This is the West Hollywood location on Melrose Avenue. We went at lunch, which felt like the right kind of rule-bending, and ordered two burritos: the Cali with double steak, and the Sig. We skipped the tots on both.
Both were amazing.
What We Ordered
The Cali (double steak, no tots)
Easily the best breakfast burrito we have ever had. The eggs were cooked to perfection and the steak was tender and flavorful. The flavors were balanced the whole way through, with no single ingredient taking over. The menu lists the Cali as eggs, steak, cheddar, avocado, heirloom pico, tater tots, and crema, with pickled onions on the side.
The Sig (no tots)
No slouch. The menu lists the Sig as eggs, beef chorizo, cheddar, avocado, tater tots, black beans, and two aiolis, with pickled onions on the side. The chorizo was not as good as the steak, and that gap is what separated it from the Cali.

The Quirks
We dropped the tots from both burritos, so we cannot say how they change either one.
The Verdict
If you want the best version of what Sobuneh does, order the Cali with double steak. The eggs, the steak, and the balance all land, and it is the best breakfast burrito we have had. The Sig was very good, but the steak is the standout.
