Crackly thin-crust pepperoni, a vodka square that eats like a full meal, and not a single place to sit.
Overview / First Impressions
Apollonia’s Pizzeria is a slice shop on Wilshire in the Miracle Mile, and its website says it has been at it since 2012. We showed up for lunch and ordered across the whole board: two thin-crust slices, three square slices, and a pepperoni and burrata order with Mike’s Hot Honey.
We gravitate toward thin, New York style pizza, and Apollonia’s did not disappoint there. But, it also gave us a new love for the Detroit style squares… Something other spots in LA have not been able to do.
The place was busy and there are no chairs. This is aplace that’s obviously all about the pizza. The shop’s own Facebook page describes it as pick-up only with limited standing counter space, so that part is not a surprise, just a fact to plan around. Staff were super friendly, and a classic jukebox was playing good music, which goes a long way when you are eating on your feet. Know it’s cash only.
What We Ordered
Pepperoni (thin)
My favorite of the day. It was crunchy and crisp without being too hard, and the crust did not bake the flavor out of the pepperoni. It stayed moist. That balance is the whole trick with a thin slice, and this one nailed it. This is what slices from Sonny’s wish they could be (but more on that in another review on a different day).
Cheese (thin)
Same crust, same crunch, same moisture. Everything we loved about the pepperoni carried over to the plain cheese slice. It was so good, I wasn’t questioning why we didn’t get a second pep slice.
Vodka Sauce (square)
This was my second favorite of the day. It was super saucy without losing the savory flavor we love, and it came out with moist, flavorful toppings with a bready but crispy base that was to die for.
Pancetta (square)
Excellent. It eats like a meat-lovers slice, and the onions on it were great. It is very herbaceous, so I don’t think I could eat much more of this. But, still a great bite.
Acapulco Gold (square)
Really good. Ricotta, grape tomatoes, and arugula. The arugula offers a bit of pepper, while the ricotta and tomatoes were creamy and sweet, respectively. Same amazing crust throughout.
Pepperoni and Burrata with Mike’s Hot Honey
We also ordered the pepperoni and burrata with Mike’s Hot Honey. This is a fan favorite and one of us was more impressed than the other. It was very good. But, the sweetness landed while it left me wanting a savory counterbalance.

The Quirks
No seating. No cash. Limited parjing. The jukebox is a nice touch.
The Verdict
We loved Apollonia’s. Everyone raves about the squares and rightfully so. But, don’t sleep on the thin slices that also hit like no other place we’ve tried. It earned a spot as our favorite pizza spot and we can’t wait to go back.
