A vibrant Beverly Hills steakhouse with great service and standout apps and cocktails β good overall, but the main course doesnβt consistently live up to early promise.
Overview
Steak 48 offers classic steakhouse fare with contemporary polish: USDA Prime and dry-aged cuts, refined seafood, inventive appetizers, and a robust cocktail and wine program. The setting is lively, great for people-watching, and service is excellent, with thoughtful touches like martini sidecars enhancing the experience.
First Impressions
Upon arrival, the energy matched the Beverly Hills vibe: stylish yet approachable, with a bustling dining room full of conversation and action. The service team, led by Brandon, was thoughtful, knowledgeable, and contributed meaningfully to a positive experience.
Cocktails arrived promptly, well-balanced, and presented with sidecars, which we absolutely love.
What We Ordered
House Bread
Warm, buttery, and excellent. Honestly, it reminded me a bit of classic Pillsbury crescent rolls in texture and familiarity, which wasnβt a bad thing at all.
Lobster Rolls
A high point. Sweet lobster and well-balanced seasoning made this a memorable starter and one of the best small plates of the night.
Deviled Eggs
Rich, creamy, with added textural interest. These were truly excellent and a highlight of the evening.
Beet Salad
The beet salad was excellent, with tasty, ripe, multicolored beets that were slightly sweet, along with goat cheese to balance it out.
Caesar Salad
A solid rendition of the classic, with crisp, well-dressed romaine with familiar Caesar flavors. A poached egg was a nice touch and added a bit of creamy flavor and texture.
Fries
Serviceable but far from exciting. They hit the mark without elevating it.
Brussels Sprouts
Nicely caramelized and flavorful β a welcomed vegetal counterpoint to the heavier proteins.
45-Day Dry Aged Bone-In Rib Eye
Unfortunately, this iconic selection was just okay. Mine came slightly overcooked and was tougher than expected for a dry-aged steak of this notoriety. I was encouraged to go medium, as opposed to my preferred medium rare, which was a mistake. Nonetheless, the steak just didn’t taste great and cooking it less wouldn’t have solved that problem.
Steak Farina
This was their version of steak with eggs was better executed than the rib eye, particularly the filet component, but still not awe-inspiring compared to premium competitors. This continues to be an oddity to me, as the best steaks in LA seem to be from Dunsmoor and Bavel, as opposed to pure steak houses.
Warm Vanilla Caramel Cake
A classic dessert choice, but heavily sweet without much nuance β pleasant but not memorable.
Triple Chocolate Bombe
Another sugar-forward finale: rich and intense, but lacking depth beyond sweetness.
Cocktails
Both the Elderflower Martini and the Vesper Martini were well-made and well-balanced, complementing the meal and amplifying the early positive vibe.

The Quirks
- The early courses (bread, lobster rolls, and deviled eggs) were standout moments.
- Fries were average at best, and the steaks, while adequate for a run of the mill restaurant, were not up to the expectations of this level of steakhouse. They were neither perfectly cooked nor particularly tender for their price point.
- Desserts skewed heavily toward sugar bombs without the subtlety or balance you’d expect from a high-end restaurant.
The Verdict
Steak 48 Beverly Hills delivers a memorable start to the meal with excellent appetizers, cocktails, service, and vibe, which are solid reasons to return for pre-dinner drinks or a shared app. Where it falls short is in the main proteins, which never quite lived up to the promise of the early courses or the reputation of premium steakhouse fare in Los Angeles.
Would we go back? Yes, but primarily for cocktails and starters, and only if we were in the area. There is undeniably good food here, but for a steakhouse of this caliber, there are other options in the city that execute the main courses with more consistency.
Service Note
Shout out to Brandon, our server, whose professionalism and personality significantly enhanced the experience. He was responsive, attentive, and clearly passionate about the menu and guest experience.
