First Impressions

This place screams LA burger joint β€” no nonsense, no frills, no table service. They focus on the burger. In many cities, this would be near the top of the list. In Los Angeles, where great smash burgers are everywhere, the bar is simply higher.

The bun was excellent. The execution was solid. But the lack of juiciness kept it from standing out in a very competitive field.

What We Ordered

Oklahoma Burger (Double)

Surprisingly similar to the regular burger, with the primary difference being grilled onions. Solid, but not compelling enough to justify a separate menu item.

Burger (Double)

Excellent King’s Hawaiian bun and a good mix of toppings, including standout pickles. However, default ketchup instead of a house sauce was a miss, and the patty lacked moisture.

Hand-Cut Fries

Solid skinny fries with the right amount of seasoning.

πŸ” Burger Rating Breakdown

CategoryScore (1–5)Notes
Patty-to-Bun Ratio5Excellent beef overflow, allowing bites of meat and cheese alone
Bun Quality & Softness4Great bun choice, but not house-made
Patty Moistness2Overcooked and noticeably dry
Flavor Complexity3Solid seasoning, lacked depth due to dryness
Toppings & Balance3Good toppings, but no burger sauce
Cheese & Sauce Integration3Decent cheese coverage, but dryness hurt balance
Structural Integrity3Sturdy and easy to eat
Overall Satisfaction3A good burger, but not special

Final Burger Rating: 3.4 / 5.0

The Quirks

The burger is served with ketchup by default. In a city full of excellent burger sauces, this feels like a missed opportunity.

The Verdict

Burger She Wrote serves a solid burger that I’d happily eat again. Unfortunately, LA is a burger town, and competition is fierce. With a juicier patty and a proper house sauce, this could be a serious contender. As it stands, I wouldn’t go out of my way, but I’d absolutely stop by if I were nearby.
